All right, you asked for it, let’s talk about it. How do you conduct pre-interviews so you can get the best possible interviews if you run an interview based show? I’m Ben Krueger; this is Authority Engine TV, where I’m dedicated to helping you grow your business using the power of podcast marketing every Thursday morning. Let’s do it, guys.

All right, we’re here in sunny Idaho. We’re here in Boise, Idaho. I’m here for a little bit visiting my brother and his wife and just having a blast. Staring directly into the sun so that’s why I’m wearing some shades. We’re having a little bit of fun out here this morning and I wanted to talk to you guys about how you can conduct pre-interviews so that you can make sure that your interviews get the best possible content.

There are a couple reasons you want to do this. There’s a couple people that are doing this that might influence you that this is something that you’ll want to do for your show. If you look at some of the guys that are really good at this, guys and gals that are really good at this, you’ve got Andy Drish. He does pre-interviews; I’ve been on his show a couple weeks ago, and we’ll actually link to that below this video. I got a call from one of his team members to do a pre-interview so that … We’ll get into why we do that here in a hot second.

There are a couple others that do this. Andrew Warner does this; the list goes on. You’d be really surprised at how much more effective an interview can be when you’ve got your bases covered on that pre-interviews. The reason you’d want to do a pre-interview is to get a really good idea of what it is you want to talk about and what it is you want to have that interview guest share with your audience.

Naturally when you bring somebody onto your show they could talk about any one of a hundred million different topics but you want to make sure as the interviewer and as the host of your show that you get the best possible content for you listenership. What you want to do is you want to conduct a short pre-interview; it can be about 15, 20 minutes to where you ask them a couple of basic questions around their experience in the field, what particular areas of expertise they have and they can share with your audience.

Really, what you’re doing is you’re trying to find some really interesting, really helpful, and really powerful advice that they have that they might be able to share with your audience. You want to dive in and see if you can find where those really interesting pieces are and take notes so that when you do your actually interview and you’re recording it you can be sure to lead the interview guest into some of those areas that are going to be really interesting, really educational for you listenership.
